Ghanzi (or Gantsi) is a district in western Botswana, bordering Namibia in the west and extending east into much of the interior of the country. The districts administrative center is the town of Ghanzi. The population (census of 2001) was 43,370 and is less populated than any area in Botswana but has over 117,910 km2 of land. The border with Namibia, the underdeveloped land and the position next to one of the largest deserts in Africa (the Kalahari desert) makes Ghanzi a prime investment target for EFM. The smart farming developed in Israel for desert conditions and low water access have spawned unique technologies to monitor roots and plants with the result of increased production with less water and fertilizer. Validated technology contributed by BMA allows for Ghanzi to provide large, scale farming R&D projects to its region and its neighbors under the EFC structure. In addition, smart city and smart logistics provides the tracking from planting to delivery to port (Plant2Port or P2P). The near, real-time information is utilized by BMA to track essential information on Quality, Quantities and location of commodities or Quarters (Q3). The ability to track quality is among the most important new advances in technology that change the risk position of commodity financing in developing countries. Smart technologies allocated by BMA to Ghanzi enable the district to enjoy infrastructure above the infrastructure benefits of major developed countries.
